Extreme Sports Explained

Extreme sports refer to sporting activities that revolve around skill, danger and exhilaration. It is the ability to control the risks involved that make this kind of sport attractive to the participants. The rules are very few and most of the times teams are not involved. There are different types of extreme sports for example free running, ice climbing and extreme biking.

BASE Jumping: is very extreme activity that includes a parachute (can be used both parachute and wingsuit) to jump from fixed objects, with unopened parachute like skydiving. The acronym “B.A.S.E.” stands for: Building, Antenna, Span, Earth – four categories of objects from which B.A.S.E. jumper can jump.

Bodyboarding: is a kind of wave surfing. But instead of surfboard u have a rectangular piece of hydrodynamic foam.

Inside the world of extreme sports there are those who go to another level of extreme. Even their fellow extremers call them crazy because what they do cannot be called by any other name. these people;e surf on volcanoes, bungee jump in crocodile infested rivers while others skate under vehicles.

For what may appear to be near-impossible, limbo-skating — roller skating under cars — is the latest rage in India, requiring the flexibility, strength and balance of a gymnast. Wonder-kid Aniket Chindak holds the unofficial world record for ‘limbo-skating’ beneath 57 cars.

Racing down an active 2,380 ft volcano at speeds of 50 mph with only a board for protection is considered by many thrill-seeking sports fanatics as the coolest, most extreme sport around.

Extreme sports men and women may sound as mythical gods but actually they are everyday persons who seek the next adventure to conquer. They look for higher heights, deeper seas and longer races.

Diana Nyad is an American long distance swimmer born August 22, 1949. She began generating national attention when she swam around the island of Manhattan in 1975 and then again in 1979 when she swam from the Bahamas to Florida (102 miles). In 2013 she became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida (110 miles) without the protection of a shark cage.

Alexander Polli is an Italian/Norwegian BASE jumper born June 26, 1985. He is considered one of the most extreme BASE jumpers on the scene today due to his daring jumps which had previously been considered too technical or dangerous by other fliers. Alex travels the world in search of the best jumping locations. Polli is also a wingsuit jumper and has contributed to the WiBASE jumping. In November 2012, he became the first WiSBASE jumper to successfully strike a wingsuit target which was made of foam and around ten feet tall.
